Many of my students have only been in Australia for a few months, and I had the privilege of taking them to the city for the first time. We had a tough time deciding where to go, but we eventually decided to go to the Chinese Garden of Friendship in the heart of Sydney. Not only did the day help to enhance my students English skills, but it also helped to teach my students about some aspects of Australian history and culture (i.e., the strong cultural relations between China and Australia and the Gold Rush in the 1800s and the impact that made on Chinese immigration to Australia, etc). The students overall enjoyed the day, and acquired knowledge that would help them further assimilate into Australian society.
