Dan Geer, the Chief Information Security Officer at In-Q-Tel provided the keynote address at the inaugural Security of Things Forum on May 7th. Geer is a nationally recognized authority on computer security and risk whose day job is to advise U.S. intelligence agencies on cutting edge technology. He talked to attendees about the disruptive potential of IoT technologies including powerful, ultra- small sensors, wearable technologies and cloud-based analytics.
Will the tech- fueled disruption of IoT technologies empower citizens, businesses and activists, promoting an ever more transparent civil society and commercial sphere? Or will IoT technologies like tiny surveillance cameras, connected vehicles and cloud based analytics promote ever tighter control and a retrenchment of long- held freedoms?
