A very very good reason to spend a Summer's day at the Community Garden in St Ann's, Nottingham. There's a lot of weedy growth to remove at the moment from the 1 acre site; after 15 minutes of chopping these two red breasted blighters were really pleased to see me doing some work and hopped around merrily for the camera (at one point giving it a fly-by knock), grabbing grubs and other insect life from the mass of seedy nettles, dock leaf and sticky weed. Having found that one of them also used the camera as a perch/lavatory I guess they earned their tasty morsels.
Not only are robins the gardener's best friend, but appropriately for Nottingham, we have Robin Hood!
Thanks to Dave ' Hojo' Atkins at Music and Masks for the backing track.
Visit the garden and maybe next month you'll meet another local legends, Jake the Bug...
