Photographer Nici Cumpston undertook an artist residency at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia in March-April, 2014. In this film Cumpston talks about her exhibition, having-been-there, which examines the Aboriginal occupation of Barkindji country prior to European settlement. She demonstrates hand-coloring and teaches her technique to U.Va. students. Cumpston was the second of six artists awarded residencies at the Kluge-Ruhe Collection by Australia Council for the Arts.
