This Land Is My Land, solo exhibition, University Art Gallery, Stony Brook, NY 2009
Americana I (blue on paper screen) features a loop of a woman walking, tightrope style, along a ledge with the wind challenging each step. The precarious walk is projected onto a screen constructed from the waxed pages of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.
Black Madonna, (green on wood panel) uses the language of religious iconography to make peace with and challenge ideas of place and belonging. Initially the piece seems still, but if the viewer stays with the piece they are rewarded with subtle movements on the screen. .
