The Phaethon Caving Light uses a piezoelectric switch for extra durability, reliability and smooth operation. This kind of switch requires 3 Newtons of pressure - it is not touch sensitive.
The lamp has electronic lock-off to prevent accidental or unintended use.
To turn on the light, we click the switch three times (a CLICK is a short press and release - less than 0.3 seconds press and release). The lamp will turn on at the previous lumen level. Every subsequent click will increase light level until the brightest level is reached.
To drop down to the previous levels we have to press and release when we reach the desired level (a PRESS is a longer press and hold – longer than 0.3 seconds).
If we reach the lowest (dimmest) level and continue to press, the led will blink once to indicate that this is the lowest level.
If we keep pressing the switch, the lamp will turn off after a short safety delay.
The lamp have also and six different strobe sequences for bicycle use or emergency signaling.
To operate the light in strobe mode, we have to click twice and then continuously press until the lamp starts to flash.
Subsequent clicks will cycle to the next strobe sequence (until the 6th is reached) and then back to the first sequence.
From there on, a press will turn off the light after a “safety delay” of about two seconds.
