Waste Land 2.0 is an auto-ethnographic travelogue-meets-elegy, or rather, funeral poem-meets-virtual anthropology.
The film takes place in both real life and Second Life - the world's largest online virtual world. While Second Life once played virtual home to millions of users worldwide, its popularity has waned for years, never achieving its projected potential as THE 'Global Virtual Utopia' of the new millennium. Using incantations of T.S. Eliot's famous poem from 1922, the Waste Land, this film tours the lesser-explored digital melancholia and virtual alienation of our online world - a world perhaps not entirely dissimilar to Eliot's own fearful imaginings.
