This is a video of a Sony PMW-EX1 being upgraded to firmware 1.2 as released by Sony on the 10 March 2010. Unlike firmware 1.11, this 1.2 firmware is easier to install and is a public release and avaliable from Sony's web site (at the time of writing this it is avaliable from servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software-model-PMWEX1.aspx).
Some people still like to see how these upgrades happen before they do it so I've thrown this simple video up. I hope it helps.
1: I have notices a slight decrease in the reported time capacity of both SxS and SD media by a few minutes. Further testing has show that the new media capacity reported seems to be a worst case senario. While my 16GB card reported 55min when empty, it recorded a few seconds more than 57min in practice.
2: One report below confirms there is essentially no change in boot up times with the new firmware.
3: Sony have issued a warning with respect to this firmware upgrade, saying if your existing firmware is 1.04 or lower then you should not attempt it yourself.
Where is warns:
NOTICE: PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR PMW-EX1 OR PMW-EX3 IS CURRENTLY AT V1.05 OR BETTER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO LOAD THIS UPDATE. IF YOUR CAMCORDER IS CURRENTLY AT V1.04 OR LOWER, PLEASE CALL YOU LOCAL SONY SERVICE CENTER FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
