The story of hot rod legend, Tom Medley.
STROKER is a portrait of Tom Medley, one of the most famous automotive cartoonist of all time. After serving in the US. Army during WW2 and completing art school, Tom signed on at Hot Rod Magazine as a photographer and cartoonist. In reaction to the outlaw reputation car enthusiasts had at the time, Tom created a character named Stroker McGurk. Stroker was whimsical and light hearted, and the cartoonwould inspire kids and dads alike to buy every issue of the magazine! Later, Tom went on make films and photograph some of the biggest events in the automotive sports, and he co-created the first Street Rod Nationals. Our film finds a 92 year old Tom at his home in Burbank, reflecting on his life in the hot rod culture, after a fire in his garage has almost destroyed all of his original artwork. Tom reminisces about his life and career, and reveals to us the world of Stroker McGurk...a world that almost went up in smoke!
