Today’s Gospel lesson includes a rather shocking incident in the life of Jesus. The disciples have seen someone driving out demons in Jesus’ name and concluded that he needed to be stopped because he was not one of them. They hear Jesus’ “Follow me” as an “exclusive” invitation which somehow makes them special. Jesus’ reprimand reminds the disciples that the only “exclusive” presence is his own uniqueness as the Christ. Join Pastor James as he brings this story into our lives as we ourselves on occasion have a hard time accepting others as Christians, believing that only our way is best, and that everyone must be exactly like us. Listen as he invites you, in light of Jesus’ admonition to his disciples, to write a different ending to the story saying, “We saw some people who were (fill in the blank) all in your name and we did not try to stop them.”
