This is a short film explaining the training and wider consultancy work we have been carrying out in Ghana's capital, Accra, for GBC - the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
It is the culmination of a multi-million dollar project by Sony Professional Solutions to provide GBC with a state of the art digital news centre.
This involves not only teaching end-users to be able to use the technology to make better TV and radio programmes, but I have also been acting as executive producer for the new programming. This has meant helping develop a new studio set and logo design, new titles and new progamme formats.
GBC is the state broadcaster in Ghana and the only channel that broadcasts to the whole of the nation. As such it has a very important role to play in this leading African democracy.
My role as chief trainer is to train journalists from both TV and Radio to make better programmes using the new technology.
We teach three key areas:
*Good journalism and news skills
*Clear, concise writing
*Using the technology to make better programmes.
This ranges from story selection and camera work to creating EDLs (edit decision lists) on your desktop ready for playout.
We are acting as a bridge between the technical details which we are translating into information that the journalists can easily understand and use to make better content.
Better content means better programmes, which in turn are more attractive to advertisers, sponsors and investors.
