Nasal acrimal duct blockage is one of the most common problems seen in a newborn and it is nothing to worry about. A simple massage done by the correct technique will suffice, however it has to be done at least 15 to 20 times in a day and may have to be continued for the first three or four months till the blocked nasal acrimal duct opens out. No other procedure is needed up to a year.
In most cases mothers do a very gentle massage which is not enough. A massage (as shown) with proper pressure applied in the medial part of the eye and should be done about 15 to 20 times a day for at least the first few months till the watering stops and we know that the nasal acrimal duct is open.
