My Family Is Like is a Filmpoem Workshop film with the Love to Learn children's community group from Battersea in London. It was directed by Alastair Cook, with sound by Luca Nasciuti and the poetry workshop led by Carolyn Jess-Cooke. My Family Is Like was made by seven children (Musie, Sky, Noah, Isabella, Selam, Riyan and Yursa) in four hours as part of Poetry International for Southbank.
Love to Learn was established in 2004 to improve and increase refugee children’s access to learning opportunities and experiences so that they are able to develop their full potential to achieve and participate. We hope you enjoy this film as much as the children enjoyed making it!
The next Filmpoem Workshop will be in Greenock at The Beacon on October 4th with Liz Lochhead (Scotland's Makar, the National Poet of Scotland), musician Luca Nasciuti, as part of community arts project Absent Voices.
