The film I ragazzi ascoltano - MEINA The First Nazi Massacre of the Jews in Italy investigates the story of Rebecca (Becky) Ottolenghi Béhar. She is a survivor of the Nazi massacre of Meina (Lago Maggiore, Italy) which took place in October 1943. Lilithwork brings the memory of such event to a number of secondary schools in Italy.
Students are invited to listen, learn, grow. The historian Mauro Begozzi, of the Istituto storico dalla resistenza in Novara is interviewed by the historian Andrea Bienati and by the journalist Laura De Feudis; in his interview he helps us in the recollection of the deepest collective memories connected to the massacre of Meina. Becky is the daughter of the owner of the Hotel Meina.
According to the Germans he had offered shelter and protection to a group of Jews. Becky was present at the time of the massacre and was saved by the Turkish Ambassador as Turkey at the time was not at war yet. She fled to Switzerland with her family and today is with us to give an account of this forgotten massacre.
The encounter between Becky and the young students is accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by Tommaso Perego.
