Slow Races was conceived for the Dear Serge programme of the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill and plays on the local history of motor racing, but aims for slowness and stillness rather than speed. The programme includes Scooter Murmuration, performed on the grounds of the DLWP by a group of mobility scooters; Bucket Race, a game for passers-by; Gnomes Race, a slow migration of figures through the De La Warr Pavilion and All Human Beings Are Born Useless And Equal In Uselessness, a provocative speech which challenges the ubiquitous utilitarianism of Modernity, performed in the award-winning bandstand of architect Niall McLaughlin.
Slow Races was part of July 2014's edition of Dear Serge, a free bi-monthly event held at the De La Warr Pavilion.
