Trailer for upcoming short film damned spot, adapted from Shakespeare's Macbeth.
After being left powerless by a devastating event the Macbeths are desperate to feel in control again.
Shakespeare’s most formidable couple struggle with the psychological battle of heartbreak and grief. It changes how they relate to one another, how they approach situations and how they see the world around them.
Then an opportunity so full of potential to change their bleak circumstance, drops into their laps but it comes at a grave price. Driven by mind-altering grief, love and instinctive ambition they contemplate doing something so damning that it will alter the political landscape forever. With the subconscious need to fill the void of childlessness will the Macbeths be willing to risk everything in the pursuit of the Golden Round?
Using the original text this modern adaptation focuses on the often-overlooked influence behind the ambitions and subsequent actions of the Macbeths - the psychological impact of repetitive grief.
Not convinced by the traditional take on the ‘evil’ character of Lady Macbeth and her ‘easily manipulated’ husband, fascinated by their relationship dynamic, Lauren Midwinter has adapted two scenes of Macbeth. With a modern take on relationship roles, equality of power and decision-making, ‘damned spot’ casts a different light onto the common expectations of the play without changing any textual elements.
