Hi, I'm Scott Bender and I created the show Locals Only. This teaser trailer is our intro to the show and hopefully helps give you an idea of what you will see in the episode to come. If the teaser wasn't enough, let me explain.
Locals Only is a show that will act as your food and travel guide to cities you may have never been, or to a city you currently live in. I have asked dozens of people what their favorite restaurants are and what their favorite things to do are. Then I tallied it up, chose the best, and looked at it from a backpackers point of view. Asking, what can I do, where can I eat, and how can I get the best experience on a reasonable budget? I want to show anyone who is willing what some of the best places are that most local people venture to, and help showcase it to the people who appreciate and enjoy food and travel. So, like I say, grab a beer, sit down, and enjoy.
I have been a fan of traveling since I was a kid. I have been a fan of food since middle school. Before that it was mostly chicken nuggets and fries. And ice cream. Once I took some culinary classes though things changed. Then when I was 15, I lived with my brother Jeff (who is the co-host of the show) in New York City and we had 1 TV with 1 channel - Food Network. From there I continued my exploration of food and travel. I studied abroad in Florence, Italy and backpacked throughout Europe. After graduation (from University of Colorado-Boulder, Go Buffs!) I went off with some buddies around Indonesia and Southeast Asia. That trip really cemented my passion for exploring this world and most recently, I took a solo trip, leaving on my birthday to South America for a few weeks where I hiked a 5 day jungle trek to Machu Picchu. I was fortunate enough to travel as a young kid and I hope I continue to stay fortunate enough to travel until I am an old man.
“Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.” Anthony Bourdain
