Long Reef Basin is on the northern beaches of Sydney. It is a protected north-east facing bay with complex rocky reef substrate, similar to Cabbage Tree Bay. In this video we show the recent Reef Life Survey of the site, which found low biodiversity, abundance and biomass of fish and invertebrate species. We found similar results in our summer survey on the same site. This is despite the area being part of an aquatic reserve with partial protection. The area has the potential to recover to have a rich, diverse and healthy marine ecosystem with more comprehensive protection (no-take zones) and better enforcement.
