10 days in Belize (minus the 22ish hours we spent in Tikal, Guatemala). July 2014. Filmed on GoPro Hero 3.
Itinerary & Favorites:
Days 1 - 3: Cayo District. Drove from the airport to the Cayo, and stopped at the Belize Zoo on the way. Stayed at Cool M Farms in Santa Elena (very close to San Ignacio). Went cave tubing and zip lining with Maximum Adventure Tours. Drove to Mountain Pine Ridge area to check out Gaia Riverlodge, Rio On Pools, and Rio Frio Cave. Visited the Saturday market in San Ignacio and ate pupusas. Explored a little bit of Spanish Lookout. Ate dinner and drank Belekins every night at Ko-Ox Han nah, also known as “Hannah’s.”
Day 4: Tikal, Guatemala. Had a guided afternoon tour with a wonderfully into portals and aliens and the movie “Contact” guide arranged by Destiny Tours. Got to hold a tarantula as well as see it shoot acid poo, listened to another guide’s stories about seeing dolphins and other mysterious phenomena in the sky, saw coatis in the wild, and watched the sunset from a top a temple. Stayed at the Jaguar Inn overnight, and left for the beach in the morning.
Days 5 - 10: San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Stayed at Cocotal Inn & Cabanas about 2 miles north of town (serene zone away from the party). Enjoyed free use of their bikes and sea kayaks to fish, snorkel, and explore the island. Went snorkeling in Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley with Searious Adventures. Ate pupusas (again) at Papuseria, and the next day ate more pupusas and large quantities of lobster ceviche and lobster burrito at Waruguma across the street. Saw a raccoon in a coconut tree by our pool, as well as plenty of lizards, birds, fish, and other critters. Ate mangos and pineapple from the Greenhouse mart and bought sardines for fishing at Captain Sharks. Every night we watched the sunset in chairs on a dock with a couple Belekins.
