- Robbie: If you’re thinking about making a move but want a city with warm weather, a place where the cost of living is cheap…today we are going to share with you the top 5 US cities that people are moving to…all this and more next on AlexaRealty411.
Robbie: Hello and welcome to AlexaRealty 411, I’m Robert Gawel…
Petra: and I’m Petra Byers…The Penske Truck Rental company did their annual list of the top American cities that people are moving to and today were going to go through the results.
Robbie: This story is a continuation of what we did 2 weeks ago, when we did cities 6 thru 10, today we will look at the top 5.
Petra: Not only did warmer weather play a big part in the results but so did, employment rate, household income and home prices.
Robbie: With that said here are the top 5 places where people are buying in the US today.
Robbie: Coming in at number 5 Phoenix. Phoenix was one of the hardest hit cities in the nation when the housing bubble burst. But now it's turning around and sun-seeking home buyers are scooping up homes at bargain basement prices. Among the top employers in the area are Wal-Mart, Intel and several major banks, including Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.
Petra: Coming in at number 4 is Orlando. When the economy is strong and people start splurging on vacations again, Orlando flourishes. Home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World, tourism jobs attract many newcomers to the area. And its reasonable cost of living -- about 10% less than Miami's -- and warm winters attract retirees and outdoor lovers of all age is one of the healthiest and most active places in the nation.
Robbie: Coming in at number 3 was Dallas. How bout them cowboys! Fast-growing Dallas is now the ninth biggest city in the country. Many tech companies have opened facilities here, including Texas Instruments, AT&T and several start-ups that the city is now being referred to as the "Silicon Prairie."
Petra: Coming in at the number 2 spot was our very own Tampa Bay. Beaches, boating and baseball are among some of the top reasons people come to Tampa, which is a newcomer to the top cities list. Several Major League Baseball teams come here for spring training and MacDill Air Force Base has long been one of the biggest employers in the area.
Robbie: And coming in the number 1 spot where people are moving to in the US…drum roll please…is Atlanta. Even though it was hit hard by the recession, Atlanta has claimed the top spot on Penske's list for four years running.
Petra: Home to Coca-Cola, Home Depot and roughly a dozen other Fortune 500 companies, the city offers a range of job opportunities. And the cost of living is pretty cheap -- less than half the cost of Manhattan -- with much warmer weather …well... except for this winter!
Robbie: Well that’s great news for Atlanta, but even better news for the Tampa Bay area for not just making the list but coming in second.
Petra: Speaking of The Tampa Bay area, if you’re looking to buy, sell or just have real estate questions call us where here to help. To reach us all you have to do is pick up the phone and give us a call our numbers are right here below.
