For Drew Rich, cycling isn't just a way of getting fit or a way to get around, it provides him with a sense of freedom.
The Broadbeach resident is a long distance rider, and is now preparing to break a world record.
He plans to set the record for the fastest solo cycle around Australia.
In September, Drew will be attempting to ride his bike around the country in 35 days.
His journey will start from the Gold Coast where he will then make his way through Townsville, Darwin, Broome, Perth, down to the bottom part of Western Australia, across the Nullarbor, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and then back to the Gold Coast.
He will mostly be following the national highway.
Drew said it’s a challenge for him: "It’s fun, there is no reason to climb Mount Everest it is merely something you feel compelled to do, it draws you to it with no concern for your outcome."
“I do what I can to ride the best that I can, then after that, it's luck and great friends."
