Hard-to-change code bases often suffer from two problems: a lack of alignment with domain boundaries and failure to express architectural ideas effectively. Developers use Separation of Concerns Architectures (Onion-, Clean, Hexagonal) to address this issue. However, these approaches primarily focus on separating technical and business code and neglect the structural aspects of the domain.
This presentation explores strategies for transferring architectural ideas and design patterns into code at different levels of abstraction. We'll discuss how Java frameworks and libraries can assist in this process by leveraging meta-information for structural verification, testability, and documentation. Employing these approaches and tools enables developers to write more maintainable code that resists degradation over time.
