The film takes place in Roseland, a Chicago South Side neighborhood, which is notorious for violence, gang infested slums and the heart of some of Chicago’s worst homicides. This film relies on a distinct representation of the community from the eyes of someone who lives within it. bell hook’s article, “The Oppositional Gaze,” inspired me to challenge the negative televised point of view and depict the beauty of my community.
