Next Station - Yagan Square Digital Tower Installation

Next Station is an animated art installation project created for the Yagan Square Digital Tower. It depicts pixel art Transperth C-Series trains traveling along a winding maze of tracks, resembling a transit map, and painting the network colours of each train line. As the scene scrolls, the trains pass pixel art renditions of local Perth landmarks - such as the Swan River Bell Tower, the Dingo Flour mill, and the Barracks Arch.

The sprites were created using Procreate, and then were animated using Adobe After Effects. The uniqueness of the Yagan Square Digital Tower posed an interesting challenge, as the screen itself is a 360° cylinder with an usual aspect ratio of 1952 x 896 pixels. Easily the most difficult part was to make the animation seamless - which took a lot of testing to get right.
