By Mark & Donna Tuttle with Broadcast Solutions
When Broadcast Solutions had the chance to bid on a Video Wall for the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, they turned to Mark & Donna Tuttle to design and create the presentation. The 200-foot-long wall stretching above the heads of the Passport Hall's occupants presented an expansive showcase for the Video Wall, and the Tuttles envisioned a spirited tour of American life to fill the vast pallet with a welcome for incoming travelers.
Mark scoured the country for high definition footage of sufficient technical and artistic quality to fit the project – yet available within the budget (quite a task!). Donna immersed herself in the images to find glimpses of the American spirit. From these she created short video collages presenting the rich diversity of our country – from the beauty of its landforms and architecture, to the hearts and lives of the American people. The Tuttles also created one-minute historical segments for each of eight regions, introducing and giving context to the current day scenes that follow. Animation contrasts and distinguishes these from the live action video that follows. Weaving together images capturing magical moments as well as the daily grind, both humble and luxurious, from the tacky to the sublime – the goal was to create a tapestry of life in the United States, celebrating the spirit and exposing the soul of the people that make up this great land.
