An Inspirational Long Island kayak adventure, the 2014 Coastal Team Challenge hosted by national non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports will bring together teams of developmentally and physically disabled and able-bodied athletes for a two-day, 22 nautical mile, non-competitive sea kayak journey along the beautiful eastern coast of Long Island, New York. Paddling by hand along the southern coast, camping out under the stars and working together as teams to overcome obstacles and challenges will help eliminate barriers for disabled athletes and inspire those who are able-bodied.
Five teams of four persons will participate in the August 12-13 Challenge, each team using two-person kayaks, matching a disabled and able-bodied athlete. Independent Group Home Living Program, a non-profit organization that provides programs, services and support for people with developmental disabilities, allowing them to realize their full potential as human beings and contributing members of their communities, will organize the participating teams.
