In March, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio signed into law the Paid Sick Leave Act, which means that anyone in NYC who works more than 80 hours a year can earn up to 40 hours of sick leave annually. As of July 30, employees can start using their earned sick leave. In this episode of "Represent NYC," Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer is joined by Sherry Leiwant, Co-Founder and co-President of A Better Balance, a non-profit group working to advance the rights of working families and who fought very hard to pass the new law and Barbara Sibley, Owner and chef of La Palapa Cocina Mexicana, a restaurant in the East Village and a strong supporter of paid sick leave for her employees. Borough President Brewer and her guests discuss the work it took to pass the act and what the impact will be on workers citywide.
