The Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District and the Coal Creek Watershed Coalition partnered to rehabilitate the Halazon Ditch on Coal Creek in Crested Butte, CO. Coal Creek is a tributary stream of the East River and eventually the Gunnison River. While it provides drinking water for Crested Butte, the Halazon Ditch is responsible for diverting water from Coal Creek for municipal use in Crested Butte. The ditch and diversion structure were imperiled by high water spring runoff before the rehabilitation project and required yearly maintenance, but now are able to withstand the pressures from high runoff.
