The visual style of the two films is an eye-opener in the docudrama field: Instead of classical re-enactments, this doc depicts the fictional part in a CGI universe, using real actors moving in a virtual world, melded together in a comic-book style to create a unique look.

Accompanying the TV premiere, ARTE will present online offers letting viewers delve into the stories of Magellan and Drake in multi-media fashion. A ship's log based on real historical sources and other material presented in comic-book style, with intense use of animation, gives viewers a whole new access to history. An online game lets players plunge into the beginnings of globalization with seafaring expeditions to explore new trade routes. Each player starts by founding hiis own small maritime company to earn money from raw materials and trade. Players can also merge with larger companies to explore additional and more profitable routes.
