AKA "campfire girls assist 'beached whale'"
~ A Tribute to Jim Kinane ~
Wood's Cove Laguana, CA on the Vernal Equinox 2010
We went to Woods Cove this morning to assist Nancy Caruso in obtaining abalone to assess the extent of the Withering Foot Disease in local abalone population.
The weather was beautiful, but the surf was a bit high. Dirk & Nancy snorkeled and provided beach support. Barbara chose to stay dry and video and interview us.
Five decided to use SCUBA. Four terminated the dive early because the surge was bad, and conditions were worsening. Jim had on doubles and decided to stay out longer. We began to worry about him because the surf was building and he had on a lot of gear.
Jim finally surface and headed back to the beach. Luckily there was a group of Campfire Girls on a beach outing who were able to assist this floundering diver in the surf zone. They seemed a bit disappointed, because they thought they were rescuing a beached whale.
