The Washington Post's documentary film is based on the award-winning video series of the same name (wapo.st/1lFPJ69). The film follows 2013's top high school football recruit, Da'Shawn Hand of Woodbridge (Va.), through his senior season and the announcement of where he would attend school to play college football. The project explored the rigors of being recruited, high school football culture, and the highs and lows of Hand's team, the Woodbridge Vikings, with a particular focus on the first-time head coach, Karibi Dede.
The video series won several awards, including an Emmy Award from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter and tied for the Associated Press Sports Editors' Multimedia Project of the Year.
It was created and filmed by Brad Horn, edited by Jayne Orenstein, produced by Jonathan Forsythe, and its motion graphics were created by Sohail Al-Jamea. Additional videography by Gabe Hiatt and Nathan Bickell. Original score by Will Bangs (WillBangs.com).
