Since 2009, the Teacher Quality and Retention Program (TQRP) has evolved into a signature program and currently boasts over 120 program Fellows. The TQRP approach is unique in that it provides financial resources, training and mentoring to new teachers from pre-service through the critical first three years of teaching.
The program allows the fellows the opportunity to work with master teachers to achieve one common goal: to become National Board Certified Teachers. In addition, TMCF focuses on recruiting African American males and STEM majors to address the shortage of National Board Certified Teachers who are African American males, as well as the shortage of qualified science and math teachers in high-need schools.
A major component of the program is the summer institutes. This intense development and training will equip these future teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully enter into a competitive and challenging teaching environment.
