Social Justice is one of the underlying themes in Southside Family Charter School. Their Civil Rights Curriculum and Study Tour culminates in a bus field trip for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in every 3rd year that brings students face-to-face with civil rights leaders and historic civil rights sites in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. During 2013-14, the teachers incorporated movement into teaching about the Underground Railroad. In this video from a teachers' workshop, you'll see glimpses of movement lessons used to build trust, to prepare students for reflective re-enactment, and as a springboard for discussions about social justice.
