At a cafe near Bastille station last year, we sat down with a real Paris basketball legend and got the inside story on the world's top street tournament: QUAI 54. The lights were low, but the atmosphere was cool. We got to hear some good stories from Hammadoun about growing his world-famous (Jordan-brand) International Streetball Championship, and how basketball has affected his life in a positive way...
From the old court at Levallois/Genevillier to its current home -- Georges Carpentier Stadium -- QUAI 54 is the premier event and the ultimate goal for players and teams from all over the world. It has a 'world cup' style atmosphere, with pro players and national team members battling it out for the chance to be #1. And now Japan has earned an invitation to play at this year's QUAI 54 tournament in Paris.
We owe Hammadoun and his crew at QUAI 54 a big THANK YOU for giving our ballers this opportunity of a lifetime. Now Hope 81 is using this chance to help grassroots player development all across Japan. Hopefully the opportunity to play in Paris with the world's elite teams will pump up our players and raise the level of competition for Japan's street and pro game.
