The "WildFIRE PIRE" Series of nine podcasts documents the goals, challenges and process of an international team of scientists participating in a landmark research study on wildfires and climate change. Funded by the National Science Foundation’s Partnerships in Research and Education (PIRE) program, fire and land specialists from Tasmania, mainland Australia, New Zealand, and the Western United States examine lakes, mountains, and forests to find out information about past fires in order to predict the impact of climate change on fires in the future. The research ranges from retrieving mud cores in remote latkes to studying Maori beliefs about fire and its place in society.
