Many gaited horses I work with change their gait in just a few lessons or hours. But there are always those that take more training. This Spotted Saddle Horse gelding comes to me for training as he is very pacey. Rather than just gaiting after 2 weeks, he continues to be pacey. I simply continue to work with him doing the same exercises: dropping the head, giving to the bit, and working over the poles. I keep the training sessions short, usually less than 30 minutes. Now, 4 weeks later, I have a horse with a very smooth gait.
Don't give up if your horse doesn't change right away. Just keep going at it and remember to be patient with your horse.
