In 1968, as part of a deal to grant Mauritius independence, the British took over the Chagos Archipelago and brutally expelled all the natives from their homeland. The Island was given to the US and in return UK received an $11 million subsidy on Polaris missiles for their submarines . The payment was kept secret from both the UK Parliament and the US Congress. There have been lies and cover-ups ever since.
Today the Chagosean is a lost nation living in great pain. However they are still legally fighting for their return although the British government has been using the protection of the environment as a pretext to deny them the right to return.
A whole nation has been stolen and cheated by the British and the American Governments. Diego Garcia is now one of the biggest American bases in the world. There are more than 3,000 troops, anchorage for 30 warships, a nuclear dump, a satellite spy station, shopping malls, bars and a golf course. "Camp Justice" the Americans call it".
In the Video we have thetestimony of Mrs. Bancourt who is among one of the oldest exiled survivor of the Chagos population, The film starts in colour when she talk about her love for her country and slowly fade into black and white when she painfully starts to relate how they were brutally deported to Mauritius.
