In February 2010, I visited the Bharati Integrated Rural Development Society in rural Andhra Pradesh. This vignette comes from an interview I recorded with Paul Raja Rao, the founder and director.
The organisation is holistic and assists people with everything from home health to microfinance loans to hydrological management. As mentioned in the piece, they are especially concerned with the interplay between economic hardship and women's vulnerability. They have several programs that address the risk of prostitution by assisting women with domestic health and economic issues.
