Pregnant Pause Champion, Prof Elizabeth Elliott, encourages Australians to support someone they care about through their pregnancy by taking a break from alcohol.
Pregnant Pause is an initiative of the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE).
Pregnant Pausers pledge to remain alcohol free while their loved one is pregnant.
Research tells us that many women are more likely to avoid alcohol when their partners do too.
But that’s not all – we’re raising funds to prevent FASD.
We are dedicated to raising money to provide support to people living with FASD and their families, to prevent it from happening to more babies, and to educate the nation; that there is no known safe time to drink alcohol during pregnancy, and no known safe amount.
We want to consign alcohol during pregnancy to the same rubbish heap as smoking on aircraft, driving without a seatbelt on, or frolicking under a sprinkler in the backyard. Actually we miss sprinklers. Let’s hang on to that one, but the others can go.
If we can do that, we can make FASD history.
