Chris McTaggart of Building Efficiency Resources presents a Provider's perspective on RESNET's options for QA enhancement. There is a potential option for implementation that will help RESNET achieve its goals of improving QA oversight of the industry that will not significantly disrupt the existing marketplace.
With ratings becoming increasingly mainstreamed, including adopted as a code compliance metric, RESNET has created the Quality Improvement (QI) Task Force, and affiliated QI Working Groups focused on QA and software consistency. This industry collaborative effort has the potential to dramatically alter how QA is performed and the future role of RESNET Providers.
On 8/18/14, RESNET Executive Director Steve Baden submitted to all Providers three options developed by the RESNET QI-QA Group to alter the manner in which QA is delivered to the industry. Public comments on these options are due on 8/29/14. Based on public feedback by Providers, the QA-QI Group will choose an option and begin work on writing the rules of implementation.
The rapid advancement of this process has left many confused and concerned about the future. Although there is widespread agreement that enhanced QA oversight of the industry is needed, there is concern that the scope and timeline of a dramatic change in how QA is delivered could be significantly disruptive to the market. Nevertheless, it is clear that RESNET intends to move forward with an option quickly.
This video intends to present a viable option for supporting RESNET in executing this critical change that does not cause significant market disruption. This option will enhance QA oversight of the industry through incorporating one of the options presented by the QA-QI group, but which is also supportive of the existing QA infrastructure. Ultimately, the unified support of several Providers will be needed to successfully influence policy. Please make time to attend or ask your staff to do so. We appreciate your time and attendance.
