After a few days visiting Palladian Villas in the area around Vicenza Italy we drove North to visit the Brion Vega Tomb designed by Carlo Scarpa. It sits in the countryside near Asolo, surrounded by corn fields, sycamores and cypress trees. The structures are cast in plain concrete and delicately embellished with stair step patterns that often travel down into water features. For me it was like an austere Alhambra.

We had the good fortune to see it in a rain storm - the sound of drops hitting pools and water cascading through voids in the roof greatly enhanced the experience.
