Tina Guo has developed an international multi-faceted performing career as a traditional solo classical cellist, metal/fusion/new age electric cellist, and acclaimed recording artist known for her distinctive sound and improvisatory style.
Equally serious and devoted to both her classical and industrial metal music, Tina hopes to open the hearts and ears of audiences with seemingly juxtaposing genres. She balances the spiritual and technical eloquence of classical music and the visceral excitement of paving a new path as a serious rock musician.
Born in Shanghai, Tina has been studying music since she was three years old when she began piano lessons in Shanghai. After coming to the United States at the age of five, she studied violin with her mother, and then she began playing the cello under the instruction of her father Lu-Yan Guo at the age of seven. Tina continued her professional cello studies with Eleanore Schoenfeld at the University of California’s Thorton School of Music on full scholarship and was a Governor’s Scholar for academic excellence.
Tina Guo is featured in the commercial for the new 2014 Mazda6, the 2014 United Airlines commercial, and was also a featured soloist in Cirque Du Soleil's Michael Jackson “The Immortal” World Tour from 2011-2013 performing in sold out arenas around the world. She performed to two million audience members worldwide with the tour, and they topped the charts for two years as the highest grossing tour in America. Tina is also featured on the Epic Records/Jackson Estate release “Immortal,” replacing the original guitar solo in “Beat It” with an electric cello/guitar battle-style duet with guitarist Greg Howe.
Tina expresses her search for the meaning of life through music with these words:
“I ache to show you what is inside my heart. I ache to be understood. I ache for all of us to understand our humanity. I ache to tell the world an eternal story. Watch me, hear me pray in the only way I know how.”
