“I donʼt think I have ever seen a breathing thing ever look happier than Winnie when she was stood over a pressurised water sprinkler with two pine cones and a tennis ball in her mouth.” - Will Whittaker
Inspired by the passing of long-time pet dog Winnie, 'My Best Friend' is a performative walk in memory of departed pet dogs. Through the walking ritual that used to commonly be shared between these dogs and their parents, stories are shared of dogs lived, loved and lost. It is a playful eulogy that is at once both a bittersweet celebration and an expression of the disenfranchised grief that results from losing a pet.
This is documentation from a presentation of the work as part of the Performance Space 'Mico Parks Festival' in May 2014. Subsequent presentations then took place as part of Field Theory's 'Site is Set' program in Melbourne and The Junction Arts Festival in Launceston.
