During the War of 1812 Belfast was briefly occupied by British forces. Belfast did not resist and surrendered peacefully. The invasion took place on September 1, 1814 so Belfast commemorated the bicentennial of this
less than proud moment in Belfast history with an event that featured a talk by Megan Pinette which began at the point where the British landed and ended near the site that the surrender documents were signed, at what is now Alexia's pizza.
