This is a Max MSP synthesiser for the ROLI Seaboard, using the external scansynth~ developed by Jean-Michel Couturier – an excellent synth using continuous wavetable readings of an ever changing wavetable. This approach is called Scanned Synthesis. A virtual mass-spring damper system is manipulated by forces that are controlled by input parameters of the gestural control. The system is represented as a warbling virtual string.
Finger pressure on the key was mapped so to act as a force on the string. By dragging down on the key, you enter the pitch bend mode. The pitch bend is phase shifting the force and adding extra forces, perceived as a sharpening of the tone. The sound output is very fat. As we implemented polyphony as well, the synth is fully suitable for live performance. We baptized it ScannedSea.
