Reading Station Car Park has 10 levels and 1600 car parking spaces and is in use 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, with lighting required for every hour of the day.
The recessed design of the ceiling, with all light fittings fixed into the alcoves, had made the successful installation of a lighting control system very problematic.
But the latest technology motion detection of the CP Electronics EBMPIR-MB batten mount PIR provided the solution. The PIR sensor is able to turn the light on to full brightness when it detects a person or a vehicle entering the car park, and then after a set delay time, drop the lighting level down to 10%. Saving both energy and money, without compromising the safety of visitors to the car park.
Together with the use of energy saving LED lighting, the projected cost savings from controlling the car park lighting with this system are anticipated to be in the region of 60%.
