A short video showing the final prototypes of a chair design that Andrea Kordos and I have been working on over the last few months. A friend let us use his amazing cyclorama - the natural light and neutral background really made the pieces stand out.
Filmed with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera in prores with a Sigma 24mm f1.8 lens on the Metabones Speedbooster. Edited in Davinci Resolve 11.
We had been is inspired by the thinking behind papercraft - that folding simple shapes can create amazing forms. We designed the chair to be simple and beautiful but also practical. Its nest-like shape is meant to be generous while the thin baltic birch plywood construction keeps it efficient and minimal. The facets of the shell are connected with piano hinges - this give the chair its form but also some flex for added comfort. The shell sits on top of a folded steel frame.
You can see more about the process of designing the chair here:
Currently we have the chair and a companion shelf design on kickstarter. Take a look!
