HELL & DASH was started in 2007, but it took us more than 3 years to be able to afford a camera. And now we always have to find someone to take it during the concerts we play!
This video is a compilation of HELL & DASH's concerts in 2010. The video takes were mostly shot by people we don't even know, to whom we gave the camera just before the concerts started, if they were willing to take it.
The pictures are almost 100% synchronized with the music (except the clip loops I added on Julian's part, and some filler I needed because I missed some small parts) and no effects at all have been applied to them. The light effects were all produced by the lighting at the venues (that we didn't even control). No post-production at all was carried out, except the editing and the titles.
We wanted to show that with little means, an editing suite and some time, anyone can actually produce a decent quality video clip for a band, even if they don't have much money.
The gear we use is a small HD camera Canon HG20. We just paid 500€ for it, second-hand-almost-new.
The audio tracks are purely taken from one of the concerts we played (we added some effects like EQ, compression and 2-D spacing but no editing). We also added some reverb to the vocals, and that's all. The master audio track is masterized with a simple Waves L3 Ultramaximizer.
OK we admit there are far better videos on Vimeo. However, the viewing quality we get here is far better than anywhere else :-)
