From 1999, h|u|m|b|o|t was shown in the «net_condtion» show at ZKM Karlsruhe. It is a very early example of tagged media mashup, that is more precisely, a set of tagged video clips interwoven using a self.organizing mapping algorithm (Kohonen) with a book by Alexander von Humboldt «Personal Narrative...» read and tagged by graduate students. The result is an atlas of clips organized according to topics in the book, and this FlatBook and FlatMovie coincide in one screen world through which users travel. In essence h|u|m|b|o|t makes an atlas concerning travel-as-art and the user journeys through our entries by selection and serendipity. When no selection is made, h|u|m|b|o|t revisits previously system-logged user screen travels automatically.
Key collaborators on h|u|m|b|o|t are Daniel Burckhardt, Florian Wenz, Udo Noll, Gruppo A12 and Øthers.
