Prairie du Chien, WI - September 20, 2014 - It may be good and even fun, but it's not good clean fun. The 4th Annual Mud Run was held today as a fundraiser for the Skate Park. The Mississippi Mud Run Chairwoman Lorie Floyd yelled "Go" after the starting gun misfired.
The participants were so wired at that point, that they bolted from the starting line. The pace was a little different further along the 4 mile grueling obstacle course, but the level of determination, never slackened. Midwest News announcer Tom Nelson added comic relief and a boost of energy along the grueling course.
Many of the participants were seasoned runners, but seemed to enjoy the added challenge of deviously placed obstacles in their paths. If we sometimes think that glossy fashion magazines display women as vain, and aloof, that notion would be dashed by watching these lovely ladies run their hearts out before plunging into a muddy pond, abandoning all notions of glamor. Mud and all, they still seemed real, genuine, and feminine.
Youngsters, ran their hearts out, in a classic ageless drive to prove they were up to the same challenge as adults. Whatever the motive of each runner, they came, ran the course with all it's challenges, and finished with a sense of pride. Everyone Midwest News talked with said they enjoyed the run, and planned to be part of it next year. mwnews.net
